Manali Trek, May 2009

Trekking has always been my passion since I was a kid. And if it is in the Himalayas..there is nothing cool like it..this time I went to manali for a trek..Quite a long one..For 16 days..Just me my trek-mates and mountains..

On the base camp there were tents were built out for us to stay..the view from my tent itself was great, when I came out of the tent I could see the whole of manali city..and a beautiful apple tree that was just outside my tent.

When you go on treks in Himalayas you seldom find people having their own pets due to protections from wild animals mainly. Likewise the owner of the place we stayed at had these 2 awesome dogs who always did sit out in the open. Dogs are great pets!

Well, as I said I had a magnificent view outside my tent. I never see snow in Pune, so the first 2-3 hours I got to see the snow, I was trying to catch each and every mountain I could see. This was on the southern side of my tent

Surrounding our tent’s ground were apple farms..Though May is not an apple season, I could see apples with peanut sizes growing up..This is the eastern side of my tent..

I had travelled from Pune to manali in a 2 days..so I had had to get my body rolling for the Himalayan weather. For acclimatization we went on a walk to ‘Vashisht kund’. The specialty of this place is that I has hot natural springs coming from the earth’s crust. Clinically it has sulphur and many important minerals in it that makes it very essential for the body..So when you go there..You need to have a bath in it

You find an awesome quality of flowers in Himalayas especially the flowers..The weather does it all. On my way to vashisht kund I saw these beautiful roses planted outside a hotel and without a second thought I captured them

Vashisht kund has been transformed into a sacred place due to its importance. In pune, I never see sadhus sitting in temples these days, what I mean here is the actual nomads who go around place to place in search of enlightenment. This is where I thought I had found one..

The wooden sculpture were really beautiful and worth watching..

Himalay shows you different moods at every hour of the day..in the morning you can’t expect what’s going to happen in the noon or in the evening, when I came back from vashisht I was went crazy when I saw this mountain…in the noon it was all covered by clouds, so I had no idea what was around there!

We started our trek..And it was a long trek of 7 hours…I cursed myself a lot of during trekking..Because it was A LOT of work …but when you reach to the next camp in after trekking, you are really satisfied.

Once we reached to our next camp we did not have anything to do, and we were given strict instructions the no one was supposed to go to sleep like a lazy jack..

So me and my camera went on a little walk..Just besides my camp(actually me and tejas were looking a good place to empty ourselves ;) ) I saw the this huge rock coming outside the mountain, and you can see what I did when I saw it..Himalayan Titanic..

I have this photo enlarged to 30 X 50 inch …that goes in my room J

When you are walking in the mountains almost everything amazes you..on our trek I was ecstatic looking at the height the cedar trees would go up too. Their trunks were up to 2 meters diameter..Walking through them…time to imagine!!

After our first trek we had gained enough height, and manali was nowhere visible now, but only the crowns of the mountains…on the left corner you could see some small houses, they were actually constructing a dam over there..!!

When you’re trekking you are totally exhausted the only thing remains in your mind is that when are we going to see the next camp. You hardly turn back…(you don’t have the energy left for that). When we gained a sizable height and I could see that there was a descent coming up ahead I felt good, just to imagine how far I had com I turned back..and when I did I was ‘wooooooowwwwwwwww’ when I saw this view..believe me all of my friends who saw this photo..said the same thing..enlarge the photo..You will also say ‘woooooooowwwwwwww’

We had heck lot of rain on the day we were supposed to leave for our third camp..These were our tens…bottom row for guys..then girls..then guys again..this small was known as Rauni-thach=a place where horses graze(not us..Although we looked like a bunch of tired donkeys after the trek)

The third day was too awesome and I liked the way the I was going and went crazy(I have used the phrase ‘went crazy’ a lot J, well yes, I did go crazy) after we had the first sight of the next camping site, if you see at bottom of the bottom photo…

Well, that is Shruti in orange and Apoorva in blue, I was walking and Shruti was standing in aside waiting for some of her friend and I just thought of clicking it, whenever you are trying to click photos of humans who actually are not posing for the photo..it really tends to create its own definition…

Well that was our third camp..And that my friend is BEAUTIIIFULLLL

Our next trek was really hell..We had to gain a lot of height in a single day…that was the second highest point we were going to attain..

This photo is always been of special interest to me, if you don’t look too carefully at the photo you don’t actually understand if the guys are facing towards or I the other direction of the camera..

Whenever I see this photo I get a different idea, for basics this is like a very poor quality photo taken, but if you don’t the technical point of view into consideration there are many ways a person could think after looking at this photo, if there are facing in the other direction it could depict like friends/couple are looking at the horizon and lost into a deep conversation without caring about anyone in this world. If they are facing towards the camera, (I would really pissed off for getting a bad photo ;)) it brings up an idea of a very strong relation ad gives a idea like it’s a team..of two..!

Well theory apart, the views were really maddening, we were on our way to the third camp and could see almost everything below us..

This was the kala-patthar(back-stone), this structure marked the end of the day’s hiking, in Himalayas you actually cannot guess what could be the distance from yourself to something. This stone looked nearby, but we had to take a break in between, it was so far away!!

When we reached kala patthar, we were atop the mountain and could see many other mountains up to their peaks..

After kala patthar we had to descend to reach our next camp..

We were staying 2 days at our 3rd camp since we’re going to the foot of Deo(god)-Tibba(flattened peak), well we all were guys from pune, never see sow, so when we started getting plenty of it..You dont wanna just walk by it!!

This was the northern side of the camp, it was a huge mountain range

The peak in the middle of the photo is the Deo-Tibba

This was the view from the third camp..This was the southern side of the camp…
